Mardi Gras

I tried  to make a king cake this year. It was ok. It needed a lot more cinnamon-sugar and the sugar topping wasn't quite right. I know what I'm going to do next year, so I'll post those results at that time.

David's brother and his family was in town for Mardi Gras this year, so we did a little extra parading.  Our first night was Friday for Hermes, Krewe d'Etat, and Morpheus.  Perfect weather, lots of throws and a good time was had by all.

We drove in again for all day Sunday, which includes Okeanos, Mid-City, Thoth, and Bacchus.  It was another beautiful day for catching lots of throws and spending time with family and friends.

 Glass Beads!

This year was the first year we went out for Mardi Gras day, and the girls' first Mardi Gras day.  I made them tutus and they wore them with suspenders over lots of warm clothing. It was freezing this year, and it was freezing. When we first got out there it was about 32 degrees, cloudy and windy.  It warmed up into the lower 40's, but the sun did not come out (until we were leaving) and the wind never died down.

Zulu was surprisingly nice. It's a long parade (42 floats) and they threw lots of beads, toys, stuffed animals and coconuts.  Emily caught 3, Eva caught 2, and I caught 1.  Not too shabby.

Rex followed Zeus. They have stopped throwing those yellow, green and purple 'Rex' beads that they used to throw. Each float threw a different bead- pretty cool if you could one from each float.

We did not stay for any of the trucks parades. They are too long and too loud for my liking, plus I was ready for a little warmth, and Emily was tired and grumpy.

Coconuts!

Not sure if we'll return next year for Mardi Gras day.  Maybe another trip will be in our future...

Peter Pan

Both girls were in the school musical this year, Peter Pan. Eva was Aquata, one of the mermaids, and Emily was one of the lost boys.  The show was really good; we all really enjoyed it.

Eva had one line, and she did it perfectly with lots of sass.  The only picture I have is of Eva's group - Emily was a little hard to see from where we were sitting.  That was my only complaint - too many kids on stage.

Rumor has it that next year's show will the The Lion King.

Winter Formal

Finally able to post these pictures from Eva's winter forma.  The kids had a great time, and Eva was excited to get all dressed up.
