Discovery Bash

The company David works for is a major supporter of the Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy. They had a fundraiser gala Saturday night that we went to with some of his coworkers. It was a nice night and we had a good time. It's always nice to get dressed up and go out every now and then.

They had one of those dress up photo booths. In the top picture, I didn't realize it was about to take the photo, hence my stare...

Artsonia

The girls' school is an IB school, as I've mentioned before. Their school has a performing arts foundation. Each grade through 5th grade has one pull-out class with rotates every 6 weeks. It rotates between Spanish, PE, music, performing arts, computers and art. Once they get to 6th grade, they start a block schedule where one semester they take one class and change in the next semester.

Eva is in 7th grade, and has a block schedule like the high school. The first half of this year she took art, and this half she is taking music. During art class, they did a number of drawings, learning a specific style or whatever the teacher was teaching at that time. Her teacher puts all of their work on a website controlled by the parent or guardian (me).  The website is www.artsonia.com. You can see Eva's work at this link.

Her latest drawing was supposed to support a cause. You can see that she chose abandoned animals.

I love this drawing, but she didn't sign it! She definitely got better over the semester, and I love her teacher. She was a favorite among the students.

Softball Begins!

Softball officially started with their first tournament of the season. They had 4 games Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

Cleats and softballs. (Eva's are orange.)

 The team!

They lost their first 2 pool games (used for ranking for the bracket games), but came back and won their first 2 bracket games.  They brought in a new pitcher this season, who has worked out great. In their 2nd bracket game, with only 5 minutes left to play, she stole home and ended up breaking both bones in one of her legs, right at the ankle. Needless to say, she's out for a while. The rest of the team finished that game with a win, but lost the next game, leaving them with 3rd place in the tournament. This is much improvement over last year win only one win all season.

Saturday was a gorgeous day, but Sunday brought unusually cold weather. It was in the 40s to start and windy!

 Cold!

Team (minus one pitcher) showing the plaque and their bling!

 Goofy pic!

Showing her bling!

Eva had a good tournament - good at-bats and a great pop-up catch in center in their last game. Next tournament set for April.

David and I had a night out with some friends this weekend. We started with dinner at Sukho Thai in the Marigny - delicious. We followed up with drinks at the Sarerac Bar, which is in the Roosevelt Hotel.

Kristin and me in the Roosevelt.

After drinks, we headed across the street to the Orpheum Theater to see Southern Soul Assembly. The Orpheum is awesome, and we had great seats.

Drinks at the Sazerac.

They had to have a shirt.

Waiting for the band. Awesome seats.

 Show's over

The show was awesome. The members are JJ Grey, Anders Osborne, Luther Dickinson, and Marc Broussard. It's an acoustic show where they take turns playing one of their songs and the rest back that person up. The other two in last picture are 2 other musicians that came out in the middle of the show. I was in the bathroom when they were introduced, so I don't know who they are. Lol.
